Our Tokyo adventure kicked off in the most exciting way possible—by catching a glimpse of Mount Fuji as we zoomed into the city on the shinkansen. We were lucky enough to catch the view just before the clouds covered it up. A magical start!
A Peaceful Moment at Meiji Shrine
We started our Tokyo adventure by visiting the Meiji Shrine, nestled in a serene forest. This peaceful escape from the city was a perfect way to reset. The beautiful architecture, with its natural wood and curved roofs, felt like a calming retreat. We also marveled at the rows of sake barrels, offered by local breweries to honor the shrine.
Hands-On Sushi Making
One of the highlights of our trip was getting hands-on with sushi-making. Under the guidance of an expert, we learned to make tamagoyaki (a sweet Japanese omelette) and perfect vegetarian sushi rolls. Who knew rolling sushi could be this tricky? But it was all worth it in the end! The process of crafting sushi in a real Japanese home made the experience even more special. Pro tip: Sushi rice is super sticky!
Mochi Madness
Next, we dove into the world of mochi-making and mochi art! We pounded rice, crafted delicate designs, and even grilled mochi. The experience was a bit awkward at times—especially with dry mochi that didn’t want to cooperate—but it was fun and totally worth it. We ended the session with a calming tea ceremony, enjoying every bite of our hand-made mochi creations.
The Art Aquarium Museum: A Magical Experience
One of the most surreal parts of our Tokyo adventure was visiting the Art Aquarium Museum in GINZA. The stunning display of goldfish swimming in illuminated tanks felt like walking through an underwater dream. If you ever get the chance, this mesmerizing experience is a must-see. It’s part art, part aquarium, and definitely magical.
Kabukicho Tower: The Height of Fun
For a bit of pure entertainment, we hit up the Kabukicho Tower in Shinjuku, a 225-meter-tall building filled with everything from gacha-gacha machines to live anime music performances. We ended our evening with cocktails at Jam17, a bar on the 17th floor with stunning views of the city. The perfect way to wind down after a few days full of excitement.
Food, Fun, and Final Thoughts
In between all the action, we found some fantastic food, including the ever-delicious vegetarian omurice and even stumbled upon some fried Korean street food. Every bite was a delight, and Tokyo’s food scene never disappointed!
It's hard to pick a favorite moment—whether it was making sushi, pounding mochi, or getting lost in the magic of the Art Aquarium, this city had something special around every corner.
With Love,
